AVOID
Non-Foods and Additives There have been many new foods and other substances which have been added to the standard American diet. While some are known by everyone to be unhealthy, some of these new additions have been touted as panaceas or health foods, but are they really what they're being advertised as? Below are some good, informative links with the goal of educating people about the dangers of various foods and chemicals which have crept into our lives, more than you may even know (soy and canola in some form are in most processed foods such as frosting, butter, peanut butter and mayonnaise).

ALTERNATIVES
Sweeteners:
Stevia (herb extract) Read this first. It is claimed stevia is not safe as a sweetener and that only small, occasional amounts are not harmful. If you want to use stevia you should research it and make your decision based on factual information.
Inulin (not very sweet at all but would be a good bulk/texture ingredient for frostings and other things)
Oils (You should get them 100% Extra Virgin if you can)
Food Treatments/Preparation
Microwaved Foods
Irradiation
